Liebe Freund:innen und Partner:innen der Lawaetz-Stiftung, liebe Kolleg:innen, liebe Interessierte,
1986 hat die Freie und Hansestadt Hamburg sich entschieden, die Johann Daniel Lawaetz-Stiftung zu gründen. Ein wichtiger und richtiger Schritt für das Gemeinwohl der Stadt und die darin lebenden Bürger:innen. Seit 40 Jahren arbeiten wir – die rund 70 Mitarbeitenden der Stiftung sowie unsere Kolleg:innen in den Töchter- und Enkelgesellschaften – an der Gestaltung einer sozial gerechten, zukunftsfähigen Gesellschaft. Wenn Sie Interesse haben, in unser Wirken einzutauchen, dann schauen Sie sich gern hier um!

Anfang des 19. Jahrhunderts wächst in Altona, das noch zu Dänemark gehört, und in Hamburg die Sorge vor Armut, Arbeitslosigkeit und steigenden Ausgaben für die Armenhilfe. Johann Daniel Lawaetz, erfolgreicher Kaufmann, Textilunternehmer und – selten in seiner Zeit – sozial engagiert, denkt weiter: Er fordert staatliche Arbeitsbeschaffung statt Almosen – soziale Hilfe zur Selbsthilfe.
